On Friday July 9th, 2010 Attorney General and GOP Gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett made another major campaign mistake. That mistake was kicking someone while they are down. As a kid growing up in a big city housing project one of the first rules of the street was not to kick someone while they were down and not hurt someone who is unable to defend themselves. Doing so usually got the offender a good beating by the crowd that generally gathers to watch a good fight, and rightly so.

DO You Think The Budget Sucks?
07/06/2010 - 7:24pm

Saturday July 24, 2010 from Noon-2pm at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore located at 1302 North 3rd Street in downtown Harrisburg The Rick Smith Show will give you the opportunity to speak out.  Do you think cutting funding for veterans and the state police is worth not taxing smokeless tobacco?  Do you think cutting Head Start, Pre-K Counts, and Education Assistance programs are better than taxing cigars? Do you think cutting higher education and library services is better than closing a loophole that allows multi-state corporations to hide their profits elsewhere?  Do you think cutting funding to the very agency that is charged with overseeing the Marcellus Shale drilling instead of a sane tax on what they extract from our land is a good idea?  Of course not!!!!! Join us and let the legislators know hear your displeasure.

The Rick Smith Show in conjunction with The Head-On Radio Network will be providing a video/audio cast of the historic 50th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO during its 39th Constitutional Convention from Pittsburgh, PA April 12-15, 2010. We are asking our friends to support our efforts by spreading the word and logging in to the Rick Smith Show website at www.thericksmithshow.com  We will be presenting the convention for people to view and participate. During the breaks we will be interviewing presidents from every attending international union, delegates, and observers. Please help us get the word out and make this event a great event. PA AFL-CIO President Billy George will be retiring at this convention. I can think of no better way to repay this man for his years of service to the labor movement then by organizing a massive show of support for his successor. Any questions or comments contact me at  Rick@thericksmithshow.com.

Tick off the Electric Company, Save Energy
04/02/2010 - 7:04am

For years now I have been talking about ways to conserve energy and save money on heating bills. With the skyrocketing electricity costs caused by lack of capacity, failure to invest in grid upgrades, and massive Wall Street profits, individual consumers need to know where their money is being lost. Recently I was contacted by a friend who knew I would be interested in having my home scanned with an infrared camera to identify the areas where my money was escaping from my house. Scott Albrecht of Thermocat came out to my house and walked me through all the areas of my home where heat was escaping, and my money with it. I have attached a page from his report. This page is the ceiling from my daughter’s room. This image explains why her room is always so cold, no matter what we do. As one can see, the blue is cold air coming into the room. One can also we see the fix. A simple bit of insulation. I suggest everyone know where their money is going, especially when you can control it with a simple bit of insulation or caulk. If you’d like to get your home scanned, and I highly suggest you do, call Scott Albrecht at 717-439-8024 or check out the Thermocat website at www.Thermocat.net

Undercover Boss? What are they really up to?
02/25/2010 - 3:52pm

On Saturday's program Rick will be talking to Pepi Leistyna Professor of Applied Linguistics Graduate Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston about  the undercover messages embedded in Undercover Boss.  His film Class Dismissed can be seen on You Tube and is well worth the time.  For too long media has made working people out to be uneducated, lazy, stupid, bumbling characters to be laughed at and ridiculed.  During the past several weeks I have been talking to people who have watched the CBS CEO infomercial to get their reactions.  To my surprise most people view this pro-paganda-gram as entertainment or feel good "reality" eye candy.  Fortunately, when presented with sane, rational questions, virtually everyone began to critically review what they had seen, and, began to question for themselves if what they saw was "real" or just another well cast, focused tested, polling approved campaign to make CEO's one of the gang.  Keep watching, keep questioning, Keep talking.  Tune into the Rick Smith Show every Saturday and Sunday noon-2pm with your questions, ideas, and observations.
