WHAT THE F%#K Tom?

On Friday July 9th, 2010 Attorney General and GOP Gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett made another major campaign mistake. That mistake was kicking someone while they are down. As a kid growing up in a big city housing project one of the first rules of the street was not to kick someone while they were down and not hurt someone who is unable to defend themselves. Doing so usually got the offender a good beating by the crowd that generally gathers to watch a good fight, and rightly so.

DO You Think The Budget Sucks?

Saturday July 24, 2010 from Noon-2pm at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore located at 1302 North 3rd Street in downtown Harrisburg The Rick Smith Show will give you the opportunity to speak out.  Do you think cutting funding for veterans and the state police is worth not taxing smokeless tobacco?  Do you think cutting Head Start, Pre-K Counts, and Education Assistance programs are better than taxing cigars? Do you think cutting higher education and library services is better than closing a loophole that allows multi-state corporations to hide their profits elsewhere?  Do you think cutting funding to the very agency that is charged with overseeing the Marcellus Shale drilling instead of a sane tax on what they extract from our land is a good idea?  Of course not!!!!! Join us and let the legislators know hear your displeasure.

Pennsylvania's Lost Revenue

Teamster Magazine Feature: Teamsters Turn Up the Volume

Although he is a burgeoning celebrity in central Pennsylvania, Rick Smith says he is an average man—and that might just be what makes him so popular.

A truck driver for Roadway Express, Smith is a member of Local 776 out of Harrisburg. On the weekends when he’s not on the road, Smith can be found in the studios of WHYL AM 960, broadcasting his voice—and his opinions—over the airways.

Host of a self-titled radio show, Smith provides the listeners in his area with something he calls unique and different—the perspective of a working-class, union man.

“Everything here is very conservative and very far to the right. In our area, my radio show offers a progressive point of view. I look at things through the eyes of a working man because that’s what I am,” Smith said. “I discuss the struggles of keeping a roof over my head and food on my table; I think people can identify with that.”

Gag turns into a wonderful bounty

Over the past few weeks the Rick Smith Show has been looking for a theme song for Jake's labor segment.  A listener, knowing of Jake's reputation as a big eater and lifelong member of the AHA (American Hog Association) thought food related songs would be a big hit.  SO week one saw the introduction of the Cookie Monster singing "C is for Cookie."  Week two was the Warrant song "Sweet Cherry Pie."  The next day came the bounty in the form of a delicious cherry pie and a big plate of cookies.  Jake wasted no time digging into the plate of cookies and struggled to wait the two hour of the show before diving in to the pie.  Thank you Granny Ruth your Sweet Cherry Pie was devoured and the cookies met their match.

A Real Vice President

Joe Biden has been a strong advocate for working people and their families. He has been a trusted leader who speaks truth to power.  The republicans have attempted to smear a good man because they have nothing else to run on.  The economy is in crisis, the housing market is in crisis, manufacturing is in crisis, our military is in crisis and all the good people of this nation get is rosy optimism and failed rhetoric.

We Were Just Kidding, Can't You Take a Joke?

It is hard to believe that we won the war five years ago today.  George Bush landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln and declared the end of the war.  In Fact, here is exactly what George Bush said,
