Claiming unemployed workers are lazy and unwilling to work is a low blow, even for a republican. Truth be told, modern day Republicans would not have faired well in my neighborhood. Chances are their self entitled hooray for me and to hell with everyone else attitude would have gotten them many well deserved beatings. Tom Corbett, the latest GOP bully to spout off about workers who have fallen on hard times, is but another Republican to deserve a public beating, at the ballot box of course.
The sad reality is that the majority of those who find themselves unemployed, vulnerable, desperate and ashamed buy the frame under by bullies like Tom Corbett. These are people who have worked tirelessly to do a job only to find that they have been discarded like trash, and it was not their fault. This unemployment crisis is the fault of 30 years of bad trade policies and blind faith deregulation pursued by elitist conservatives who couldn’t find a hammer in a tool box if their life depended on it. The jobs are gone because we have allowed the Reagan-Friedman-Greenspan disciples to preach endlessly about the virtues of laissez faire free markets. Their preaching paid off. It created the largest billionaire class in history and destroyed the largest middle class in history. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
This November brings us to a fork in the road. Do we return to the conservative policies that created the messes that now must be cleaned sweeping the messes under the rug for our great-great grandchildren? Or do we stand firm and say no to people like Tom Corbett? Remember how, and who got us into this mess this November.
